It has the name of our Old Continent, the poster features the face of the mythological character. It is no coincidence that it is called “Europa – Cinema al femminile”, the review that brings together the works of female directors who, from different European countries, will meet in Naples. The second edition of the Review, which will be held at the Institut français in Naples Le Grenoble, will mark the months of November and December, with seven events, one per week. “The purpose of the review – explains the creator Antonella Di Nocera – is to celebrate the cultural exchange, ideas and creativity of European women. It will do so not only through the screening of important titles that do not reach the canonical distribution circuits but also with the presence of female directors in the room for dialogues with the public”. The review brings with it the idea and the birth of an exchange, a migration, a connection between peoples and cultures: highly contemporary themes, after the individual and social closure due to the pandemic and the recent war scenarios that involve our continent. “The second edition – continues Di Nocera – also supports Iranian women in the battle for the conquest of rights, with a tribute to the haircut that has become a symbol of the revolution and is represented on the poster of the festival”. The festival will open on Thursday 3 November with the inauguration evening with the piano concert “Uno scherzo” by Chopin with the teacher Paola Volpe and the screening of “Slalom” by Charlene Favier, selected for the 73rd edition of the Cannes Film Festival: the film addresses the issue of abuse in the world of sport. On 10 November it will be the turn of “Letni Ribelli – Ribelli d’estate” by Martina Saková which tells the story of the summer of an 11-year-old boy in which rebellion, friendship, catastrophe and redemption mix.
“Nico” by Eline Gehring will be screened on November 17: the protagonist, victim of a racist attack, begins training with a karate world champion. On November 24, it will be the turn of “Women do cry” by Vesela Kazakova and Mina Mileva: set in Sofia against the backdrop of the Istanbul Convention, the protagonist is a family composed, apart from the domineering father, of only women who will have to rely on mutual solidarity to understand who they are. December 1 will be the turn of Spanish cinema with the film “Pa’tras ni para tomar impulso“ by Lupe Perez Garcia: a complicated love life and the baggage of family and friends left behind will not make it easy for Carmen, who has arrived in Buenos Aires, to realize her dream of transmitting the art of flamenco. The penultimate screening will be “Si le vent tombe” by Nora Martirosyan, a film in which the protagonist, the engineer Alain, will have to decide whether to reopen the airport in Nagorno Karabakh: discovering this isolated land, he will risk everything to allow the country to open. Italy will be the protagonist on the last evening, December 15, with Roberta Torre’s film “Le favolose” about Antonia, a trans woman whose identity was denied even in death: the documentary will be screened on December 15 at 7:30 pm. All the films will be preceded and followed by a discussion with the directors and authors.
